New Zealand and Australian trade partners, alongside Tourism Fiji and Fiji Airways, visited Mai Sunset Beach Resort on Naviti Island in the Yasawas during a recent Blue Lagoon famil.

Now owned and operated by South Sea Cruises, the retreat is being repositioned for the market while retaining its laid-back barefoot appeal. Originally developed by a Kiwi builder, the resort is now looking forward to its next phase having undergone structured growth under the new owners.

Progress is moving quickly. ‘Within six weeks we have seen the transformation into a working resort and look forward to welcoming more guests - watch this space.,’ South Sea Cruises’ Alyssa Field says.
A new reception area and boutique has been completed, as well as an activities centre & massage area. Air conditioning will be added to the beachfront bures and additional solar generation will be installed in July. Plans also include the addition of five glamping-style tents by October, with stage two of the expansion offering even more inventory and facilities, expected to be finished by the end of December 2026.

This three-star resort currently offers seven beach bures and three dorm-style shared garden rooms each with four single beds. Meal plans are F$169 per adult and F$79 per child per day, with newly recruited chefs leading the kitchen. Daily activities, an outdoor massage area and direct beach access for snorkelling round out the guest experience, positioning Mai Sunset as an emerging, accessible Yasawa option.
