‘Behind the scenes NZ, with international touch’ offered by Wendy Wu

A touch of the Wendy Wu Tours’ international experience combined with a ‘behind the scenes’ look at New Zealand provide a point of difference for the company’s just launched domestic programme, says managing director Paul Dymond.

‘We didn’t want to put something into the market that was already there,’ says Dymond. ‘These are fully inclusive tours aimed specifically at the Wendy Wu customer – and we’ve got hundreds of

clients here who obviously can’t leave New Zealand at the moment.’

He says the tours have a taste of Wendy Wu’s Asian flair – with experiences such as a visit to the Fo Guang Temple (‘an authentic Buddhist temple where you can get a flat white’) and an Asian cooking class at Sachie’s Kitchen in Auckland. There is even a nod to South America with the Alpaca Experience.

However, the tours also incorporate places that the Wendy Wu team members have enjoyed in New Zealand.

‘We highlight New Zealand attractions that have grown from New Zealanders being innovative, like Weta Workshop and Tawhiti Museum,’ says Dymond.

The tours, fully commissionable to the trade, include two 11-day itineraries (Hidden Gems of the North and Hidden Gold of the South) that run back to back so can be experienced either separately or as a full Hidden Treasures of New Zealand tour.

The first departure is 30 October 2020. Highlights of the northern tour include the Pukeiti Rhododendron Gardens and Len Lye Gallery in New Plymouth, the Ruapehu Sky Waka and a visit to Zealong Tea Estate in the Waikato. The South Island tour has a welcome dinner in Larnach Castle, wine tasting and lunch at Mt Difficulty, and Big Sky Stargazing at Mount Cook.

Dymond says the intention is to also offer the experiences to Australian travellers and those from further afield when it is possible to do so. Wendy Wu will use its own experienced guides, and contract local coach operators and other suppliers / businesses such as restaurants and hotels.
