Insights into Auckland’s thriving regional screen industry, and its growing influence on tourism, hospitality, employment and destination promotion were shared at Skål International Auckland’s September networking luncheon at Fable Auckland last week.

Attendees heard from guest speaker Matthew Horrocks, manager of Screen Auckland, who outlined the scale and strength of Auckland’s screen business community.

The city’s screen sector supports 6,994 jobs, representing 56% of the country’s total screen industry employment.

The sector also contributes $1.46 billion to New Zealand’s GDP, accounting for 62% of the national total, demonstrating the vital role film and television production plays. An impressive 2,385 screen-related businesses represent 49% of all screen industry business units nationwide, reinforcing Auckland’s position as New Zealand’s leading screen production hub.

The September event also welcomed three new members to the club – Jillian Brodie-Travel Managers; Michelle Geale, CPG Hotels and Tania Wakefield, Waka Pacific Trust.

Skål International Auckland’s next event will be held on 1 October at The Formery, 87 Albert Street. With New Zealand elections nearing, a tourism and hospitality discussion will feature Todd Stephenson, ACT Party New Zealand’s tourism and hospitality spokesperson.
