This will give riders the opportunity to experience the challenging new backcountry route alongside some of the South Island’s best-known Great Rides.
Adventure South NZ general manager, Angela Sexton says the Kawarau Gorge Trail will offer a markedly different experience from the nearby Lake Dunstan Trail.
‘This is a true backcountry trail. It is remote, rugged and physically rewarding making it ideal for riders looking for a more adventurous experience. With the right preparation and the support of experienced local guides, it will be an unforgettable journey,’ Sexton adds.
Rather than offering the one-day ride as a standalone trip, Adventure South NZ has incorporated the 34km Kawarau Gorge Trail into four itineraries combining it with other cycling routes across Central Otago and the wider South Island.
The first Adventure South NZ itineraries featuring the trail are: Cycle Kawarau Gorge, Dunstan & Otago Rail Trails, first departure 17-21 November; Cycle the Kawarau, Dunstan & Roxburgh Gorges, first departure 26-30 October; Best of South Island’s Great Rides, first departure 20-27 October; South Island Great Rides Explorer, first departure 23 October-6 November.
