Expanded Trafalgar approach makes things simpler for agents

Introducing new travel categories and unifying the 2027 portfolios of Insight Vacations and Costsaver  under the Trafalgar name comes after considerable consultation with the travel trade, including agents in New Zealand, says TTC’s senior vice-president Oceania Andrew Young.

TTC today officially launches Your New Era with Trafalgar, introducing a suite of three value tiers which can be used to more clearly define which travel style suits a specific client.

Young says that over the years some confusion has been built up around where the various brands sit in the market.

‘Clients don’t necessarily know the connection between the brands and agents sometimes don’t have a clear understanding of the differences either. The goal isn’t to give agents less choice, it’s to make more choice easier to navigate.’

He says the new approach will offer Trafalgar Saver, Classic and Premium. The expanded portfolio will be on sale in Q4 2026 ahead of the peak Black Friday booking period. For 2027 departures, existing itineraries, experiences and pricing remains unchanged.

‘There will be no changes to Costsaver, Trafalgar or Insight and those brands will be able to be sold up until April 2028. In the meantime when the advisor goes to the travel agent portal an Insight tour, for example will show up twice – once as Insight and also as Trafalgar Premium. They can choose either one and the customer will receive travel documents based on how the tour was booked.

‘However, we suggest agents familiarise themselves with the value tiers and which customers they appeal to. We will be doing considerable marketing of the new Trafalgar options around January 2027, which will add some sharp stimulation of the brands to consumers. So it makes sense for agents to get on board as soon as they can.’

He says the change encompasses more than 600 itineraries across 75 countries and five ways to travel – small groups, tours, river cruises, rail journeys and group sales.

‘We’re grateful to the select agents involved in consultation around these changes. This process started 18 months ago with interviews of agents globally. We have received a lot of feedback on how the brands are being sold, including through focus groups in Auckland who told us what they need to make the sales process smooth and seamless.’
