World Journeys recommends East Africa for clients who enjoy bird watching.

The avifauna of Kenya alone includes no fewer than 1105 species, including the lilac-breasted roller – the official bird of Kenya. The best time for birdwatching is April, May and early June, when butterflies and blossoming of wildflowers appear after the rains. October / November is ideal for witnessing migratory European bird species and many game reserves offer hides for bird viewing. The Conservancy Hides at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy can be booked to view birds around the swamp, such as white storks and the crowned cranes. Others such as Amboseli offer the scenery of hundreds of pink flamingos on the lake, set against the backdrop of Mt Kilimanjaro.
