This opens the door for travellers to experience the traditions, stories and daily life of one of Alaska’s oldest continuously inhabited communities.
The inaugural visit was developed in partnership with Old Harbor Native Corporation and the Alutiiq Tribe of Old Harbor, ensuring the experience was shaped by local voices and reflects the community’s culture and values.
During the historic visit, guests aboard the hybrid-powered MS Roald Amundsen were welcomed into the village to discover Alutiiq heritage firsthand — from visiting a traditional ciqlluaq (village home) reconstructed by local artists and elders, to exploring the Russian Orthodox Church, learning about subsistence practices and food security initiatives, and meeting local artisans preserving generations-old crafts.
Old Harbor will now become part of HX’s 2027 Alaska programme.
