The ship recently had its first sailing on The Svalbard Line for a signature voyages, designed around selected ports, longer stays and more time to experience the Norwegian coast.
Hurtigruten CEO Hedda Felin says demand for Norwegian coastal and Svalbard voyages is being driven by travellers who want more time in each destination and a closer connection to local culture.
‘More travellers are looking for journeys with plenty of time in each port, close contact with nature, and food and drink experiences connected to the places they visit, Felin adds.
During the summer season (June-August), MS Midnatsol will sail between Bergen and Longyearbyen in rotation with MS Trollfjord, offering weekly departures to Svalbard. In winter (December-February), the ship will alternate with MS Finnmarken on weekly departures from Hamburg on the North Cape Line.
Hurtigruten’s APAC MD, Damian Perry, says demand for the line’s Signature portfolio from both trade partners and guests across the APAC region has never been stronger.
‘That’s reflected in everything we’ve announced this year, from our new Fjord and Arctic itineraries to the remodelling of MS Midnatsol,’ he says.
