Jacqui Constable, trade specialist – tourism with Tourism & Events Moreton Bay, says the organisation is working to capture the decision-making of a Kiwi audience on both sides of the ditch.
Earlier this year a Kiwi Cuzzy Guide was launched to encourage New Zealanders living in Moreton Bay to get out and about with friends and relatives when they visited. ‘We’ve seen that a lot of New Zealanders come here to live and don’t necessarily get out and spend on our activities and attractions. So we’re targeting Kiwis who live here – encouraging them to experience the area and take any visiting New Zealanders out with them’
Looking directly at this side of the Tasman, Tourism & Events Moreton Bay is engaging in product training and hosted key agents to a Dolphins-Warriors NRL match in Wellington earlier in the season. The region had a number of operators – including G’day Adventure Tours, Brisbane Whale Watching, Maiala Park Lodge and Trevena Glen Farm – at the Australian Tourism Exchange in May and before that Constable took part in the Queensland is Calling roadshow around New Zealand.
The Moreton Bay region includes Redcliffe and Bribie Island, both within easy reach just north of Brisbane.
‘New Zealand is number one priority market for us,’ says Constable, ‘and we want the trade to encourage clients to book activities before they get to us. New Zealanders are coming and doing tours so agents may as well get commission.’
