Founder (and chief foodie) Himanshi Munshaw Luhar says the daytime foodie culture tour starts at the Immigration Museum, and guides talk about how Melbourne has been shaped through migration.
‘We walk and eat our way through a historic timeline from the goldrush to World War I and through the arrivals that have made Melbourne the multicultural city it is today.’
The company has been operating for 15 years but for a long time predominantly focused on the domestic market. These days it is trade friendly and places importance on international travellers as evidenced by its presence at the Australian Tourism Exchange earlier this month.
‘We see Kiiws coming on our tours for the second or third time – often they are VFR and wanting to do something different while they are here.’
Foodie Trails also has an evening tour, which Luhar says is less about history and more about the dining scene and night life. It starts at Federation Square, explores laneways and visits a speakeasy bar.
The day-time tour is A$185 retail, the night tour A$220. Private walks are also available and Luhar says these almost exclusively come through the trade.
