While Queensland’s islands often gain the limelight when it comes to luxury options in the state, new inventory is also lifting the mainland coastal and inland offering in the sector  – making it increasingly viable for agents to sell combinations to high-end clients, says Craig Davidson, chief executive officer of Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ).

‘Our islands cover the length and breadth of the state and our airport infrastructure means people can get close enough to easily access any of them. Island and reef stays are the plateau of our luxury product with places like Hayman, Lizard, Bedarra, Orpheus and Qualia.

‘A lot of this is refreshed and new but we want the trade to be aware that there is also strong complementary product on the mainland. This includes Baillie Lodges’ Silky Oaks Lodge in the Daintree, Bloomfield Lodge in Wear Bay (Far North Queensland), The Taylor in Mackay, The Ardo in Townsville and many others.’

Davidson says there are also new experiences that will appeal to luxury travellers, like a guided walk on the Ngaro Track in Whitsunday Islands National Park or the Thorsborne Trail on Hinchinbrook Island.

‘We want to get Kiwis thinking that they don’t need to go far for tropical luxury.’
