Set on the historic grounds of the former Sutherland Estate, Uga Ghiri occupies 11 acres of terraced hillside in Sri Lanka’s central highlands, with views across valleys and peaks, and of Ella’s Nine Arch Bridge.
Completed in 1919 and built entirely of brick and stone, the bridge is one of the country’s most recognisable landmarks, with guests able to watch the daily passage of mountain trains.
At the centre of the estate stands a restored manor, now serving as Uga Ghiri’s main house. Guests can dine indoors, on the verandah, or the covered patio. Menus feature international and local favourites.
Uga Ghiri also features 15 standalone villas, each designed as a private retreat.
The spa at Uga Ghiri combines ancient Balinese wellness traditions with the calm of the highlands, featuring two treatment rooms, a sauna and steam room, all overlooking Ella’s peaks.
Guests will find a range of activities including an artisanal tea experience, the Namunukula descent (one way cycling route), hiking the Pekoe Trail (stage 16) and The Path of Sacred Shrines (tea plantation walk).
The nightly rate at Uga Ghiri will start from US$1,200.
