Guests will stay directly on the world’s largest salt flat. The camp is built entirely from Airstreams – five architect-designed Airstream suites – plus a sixth Airstream serving as the dining and lounge space.
The Salar de Uyuni spans some 12,000 square kilometers of salt flat, changing throughout the year from a cracked mosaic of hexagonal tiles to a vast mirror that reflects the sky. It is one of Bolivia’s most visited destinations, yet overnight accommodation directly on the salar remains rare. Guests at Samkani Camp are typically 20 to 30 kilometres from any other human presence, a degree of solitude few places can offer.
Each stay includes a private guide and driver, with more than 30 experiences available across the salar, including some offered exclusively to A&K Sanctuary guests. Highlights include visits to the salar’s hidden islands and volcanic caves, and stargazing beneath some of the clearest skies in the Southern Hemisphere.
Samkani Camp can be booked as part of an A&K tailormade journey or small group journey to Bolivia and the on-sale date will be announced soon.
