New mandatory travel insurance for Tanzania

Tanzania is introducing a new mandatory travel insurance requirement Tanzania is introducing a new mandatory travel insurance requirement

Viva Expeditions is advising travel agents of a new mandatory travel insurance requirement for visitors to mainland Tanzania, effective 1 October 2026.

Foreign visitors entering mainland Tanzania by air, land or sea will be required to purchase the Government of Tanzania’s inbound travel insurance, even if they already hold comprehensive travel insurance.

For itineraries combining mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, only one mandatory inbound policy is required, based on the traveller’s first point of entry.

Travellers should keep a digital or printed copy of their certificate for arrival. While the policy can also be purchased on arrival, Viva Expeditions recommends arranging it in advance to avoid delays.

Viva Expeditions is contacting affected clients and updating its pre-departure information accordingly.

The policy costs US$44 per person, is valid for 92 days with multiple entries, and can be purchased online before travel at inbound.nicinsurance.co.tz
