Essential Botswana: three safaris in one

Viva Expeditions has released Essential Botswana, a nine-day safari that packages three distinct safari experiences into a single itinerary — the Kalahari and two separate regions of the Okavango Delta, each with a different landscape, wildlife focus and set of activities.

The launch continues Viva’s expansion of its Botswana range, one of the company’s most popular safari destinations.

The safari begins and ends in Maun, with guests flying by light aircraft between camps. It opens at Dinaka Private Game Reserve on the edge of the Central Kalahari, known for strong predator sightings. From there, guests fly into the Okavango Delta, for three nights at Shinde on a palm island within a wildlife-rich private concession, before continuing on to Kanana in the south-western Delta, home to a significant heronry and a stronghold for the Pel’s fishing owl.

All three properties are intimate, low-density camps, and the light aircraft transfers between them are positioned as part of the experience rather than simply logistics, giving guests aerial views over the contrast between Kalahari plains and Delta waterways.

The itinerary mixes open safari vehicle game drives with mokoro canoe trips, motorboat excursions and guided walks.

‘Flying safaris are one of the things our clients ask for most, and Essential Botswana is a great example of why,’ says Tanya Gurtin, Africa product manager at Viva Expeditions.

Essential Botswana is priced from $12,845 per person twin-share, based on low season rates, with departures available daily on request. The tour can be tailored.

For travel between 7 January and 28 February 2027, there is no single supplement on Essential Botswana.
