The famil kicked off in Cape Town with an Eat Like A Local walking tour through the City Bowl and the colourful Bo-Kaap neighbourhood, visiting local eateries with food and drink tastings, while unpacking Cape Town’s cultural influences, history and evolving food scene.
‘It’s an easy, engaging way to settle into Cape Town,’ says Gurtin. ‘The walking pace is relaxed, and it uncovers local favourites you’d be unlikely to find on your own, all centred around great food.’
The group then visited Robben Island, one of South Africa’s most significant historical sites.
The Eat Like A Local tour is included in Viva Expeditions’ Magical Cape Town, Winelands and Safari itinerary (11 days from $7,578 per person twin share), and both experiences can also be added to custom South Africa itineraries.
More recently, the group has had a journey on Rovos Rail, visited the Cradle of Humankind, and experienced safaris in Pilanesberg National Park and Madikwe Game Reserve, a malaria-free Big 5 park.
