The tour departs 31 October 2026 from Kilimanjaro and combines some of Tanzania’s most iconic locations with rare experiences not often included in traditional safari programmes.
Travellers will begin in the Ngorongoro Highlands, hiking the rim of Empakaai Crater and descending into the Ngorongoro Crater, before continuing to the northern Serengeti for daily game drives. A dawn hot-air balloon flight over the savannah (included, weather permitting) provides an unforgettable perspective on the vast landscapes and roaming wildlife.
The itinerary concludes on Rubondo Island in Lake Victoria, one of Africa’s least-visited national parks. Here, guests will join a chimpanzee habituation trek – a rare conservation-focused experience that provides insight into the process of wild chimps gradually acclimatising to human presence.
Guiding the tour is Asilia Africa’s Charles Matara, named Tanzania’s Safari Guide of the Year in 2024, and recognised for his expertise in walking safaris and birding.
‘This itinerary brings together Tanzania’s best-known wildlife regions with something genuinely different on Rubondo Island,’ says Tanya, Africa Destination Specialist at Viva Expeditions.’
It is priced from $21,705 per person, twin share.
