Rhiannon Grieve has been appointed general manager at Travel & Co.

travel&co, in partnership with Air New Zealand and United Airlines, recently hosted a premium USA Ski Famil for nine New Zealand travel professionals, immersing them in the ski offerings of California’s Lake Tahoe region.

Eight agents have returned from travel&co’s SKI BC, Canada Agent Famil, a nine-day adventure in collaboration with Air New Zealand and Destination BC.

Clients who are still hoping to book a ski holiday in the northern hemisphere’s 2023-24 season should be encouraged to look at late season opportunities, says Rob Macready, director of travel&co.

travel&co. and Air New Zealand have launched an incentive that will see eight Kiwi travel agents jetting off to Canada in March 2024. No ski or board experience is needed as there will be plenty of time for lessons and après ski and exploring Vancouver.

A group of travel agents are currently on travel&co’s 2020 SKI BC, Canada agent famil, run in conjunction with Air Canada and Destination BC.

Active travel options continue to expand and offer growing opportunities for travel agents – especially those who make the right connections in their communities, according to a niche wholesaler dealing in the sector.

The government needs to ‘lower its sights’ to make it easier for skilled international travel agents to work in New Zealand, says Andrew Olsen, chief executive of the Travel Agents Association of New Zealand (TAANZ).

Olsen says that try as the industry might, it cannot convince the government that there is a skill shortage in the industry.

‘Visas should be made easier to obtain in this area,’ he says.
