HX Expeditions has announced a three-year extension of its successful partnership with Metropolitan Touring, the longest-established travel operator in the Galápagos, founded in 1953, in which HX holds a significant minority stake.

Agents with clients keen to visit the Galapagos but want an alternative to cruising are now easily catered for – either with an island-hopping itinerary or an extended ‘slow travel’ stay on a single island.

Peru Andean Travel Company is seeing increasing interest out of Australasia for its boutique cruising in the Galapagos and customised experiences in Ecuador and Peru – a trend which encouraged the company to exhibit at Luxperience in Sydney for the first time this year.

As demand hots up for travel to South America, the Galapagos Islands continue to be the ‘star of the show’ according to World Journeys.

World Journeys advises agents that visitors are now required to complete an online declaration prior to arriving in Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands. 

World Journeys reports that the Galapagos Marine Reserve has expanded to the northeast by 60,000sqkm, with the objective of creating an ‘ocean highway’ connection with Costa Rica’s Cocos Islands.
