The swimming pool at Hilton Lake Taupo

Hilton Lake Taupo adds new dimension to central location

The opening of Hilton Lake Taupo gives the central North Island an international five star brand, with the reputation to match.

The hotel has been a Taupo landmark since 1889 and as a Hilton combines Victorian grandeur with contemporary comfort and amenities.

The hotel has 113 guest rooms, with a variety of room types (including the grand Presidential suite).

The Heritage Wing offers modern style rooms within the classic surrounds of the original Terraces Hotel, while the Waikato Wing (Taupo’s newest hotel building) provides the flexibility to choose from hotel rooms to family sized apartments.

Jeroen Meijer, Hilton’s Auckland based director of business development, says the hotel is already generating interest from both the leisure and corporate markets and is gaining a profile with Hilton’s regular guests.

‘We have a strong Hilton HHonors loyalty programme and many of our guests use Hilton Hotels worldwide. If there is a Hilton in the area they are visiting, that is the hotel they will stay at. Obviously this will help attract our loyal Hilton guests to Taupo.’

Because the company now has two hotels in New Zealand (the other is on the Auckland waterfront) Hilton HHonors travellers will be encouraged to spend longer here and see more of the country.

‘We have a good base of New Zealand clients with Hilton HHonors as well, so this will encourage them to look at Taupo for a holiday or a business event.’

Hilton Lake Taupo is one kilometre from the lake front along State Highway 5 and overlooks the lake and the Central Plateau mountains beyond.

Hilton Lake Taupo has a pool, a spa pool and sauna, fitness centre and tennis courts.

Business guests

Jeroen Meijer says Hilton sees considerable potential for the corporate meetings and incentives markets.

‘Hilton Lake Taupo is conveniently located between Auckland and Wellington and has a full range of business focused services - including wireless connectivity throughout the hotel.’

Meijer says the incentive market will find plenty to do in the Lake Taupo region and Central Plateau - from the racing track, to rafting, fishing, bungy jumping, golf and a myriad of other activities.

‘Moving forward we will definitely continue to develop the incentive and corporate meetings market.’

‘We are already a place where people meet and we have a vast wedding market - there is a wedding at the hotel nearly every weekend and this will remain a key sector for us.’
