Vanuatu: Clean, caring, checked

Clean, Caring and Checked is the new mantra of tourism businesses across Vanuatu, under the Vanuatu Government’s Safe Business Operations (SBO) programme.

The Covid safety training is a required preparation for business restarts and all tourism staff are encouraged to undertake it across the 83 islands.

‘We must protect not only visitors but also our tourism staff and families. This training will ensure businesses are prepared to get back on their feet and provide our people with the confidence to greet visitors to Vanuatu,’ says Rae Ernest, safe business operations coordinator.

Modelled on similar programmes across Asia Pacific, the programme covers enhanced cleaning and protection measures, personal hygiene, and provides correct information sources on Covid-19. This is the baseline requirement for all hospitality and tourism staff – everyone from the mamas selling handicraft in the markets to bus drivers, housekeepers, and tour guides.

Businesses will be checked for compliance and the implementation of Covid safety plans. Visitors will see the certification certificates displayed at the entry points and will be required to practise physical distancing and the same hygiene measures they would at home.  They will also be required to complete sign-in and check-in requirements.
