Skalleague of the Year award

A New Zealand Skalleague of the Year Award is being launched to recognise a member who has made an exceptional contribution to the club in this country.

Nominations will be accepted from the five regional Skal Clubs (Auckland, Wellington, Te Tauihu, Christchurch and Queenstown).

The award, which was discussed and approved at the Skal International New Zealand National Committee Meeting on Wednesday, will be administered and presented by the three New Zealand past World Presidents – Phil Sims (2008), Nigel Pilkington (2016) and Peter Morrison (2020).

The winner will be announced at the Skal New Zealand AGM /Congress (set for June next year) and will receive a recognition certificate and a one year’s fully paid up membership for her or his club. Nominations are to be submitted no later than 30 November each year.

Australia is already successfully running its own Skalleague of the Year Award.

In other Skal news, there is a desire to form a club that encompasses Hamilton, Rotorua and Bay of Plenty. Previous Hamilton and Rotorua clubs are ‘in limbo’ and it is felt that combining the regions could create a more substantial base.
