TAANZ Awards: ‘Can do’ approach pays off

Have a bright ‘can do’ personality and attitude and be eager to strive for the best in the things that you do.

Those are the tips for success in the business travel management sector from Henry Tutaka, a finalist in the Rookie of the Year – Corporate category of the TAANZ NTIA. ‘This sector is very fast paced, so you must be on your feet ready to pounce at whatever opportunity comes your way,’ says Tutaka, who works with APX Travel Management in Wellington. ‘The wait and patience is all worth it in the end and it can be the smallest reward that really makes your decisions in life more memorable.’

Tutaka, who has been with APX for about a year but in the travel industry for four years, is a short haul consultant, assigned to New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. ‘But in a normal working day at APX, I happily assist with all clients in the office as I enjoy meeting all sorts of different people. This is a great ‘Can do’ approach pays o way to excel and develop your learning as well.’ Tutaka believes that corporate travel has opportunities for growth and development in a timely and efficient manner. ‘With more education being offered for tourism, the youth are coming though hungrily looking for positions, so I believe the corporate industry should tackle the flush of interest coming through. These are the people of the future. ‘I believe we come with new and refreshing ideas to help develop and strive for the best in corporate travel.’
