Mixed reports on commission

The Travel Agents Association of New Zealand (TAANZ) says it has had ‘mixed feedback’ on hotel rates and commissions since the ‘pivot’ to domestic sales.

Chief executive Andrew Olsen says the comments range from negative (‘direct and OTA rates are lower, no commission is offered’ etc) through to the positive (‘very helpful and we’re in it together’). ‘Neither the hotel or motel associations (HANZ or MANZ) exist these days so we’ve engaged Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) to help us with rates and commissions discussions with their members,’ adds Olsen.

‘I don’t want to set up a false expectation that every property wants to provide rate parity or pay agents commission but any agents experiencing difficulty can let me know and we will see what we can do. Agents should also push this feedback to their brands' product teams – better done together.’
