The Travel Corporation gets tough on plastic

The Travel Corporation’s New Zealand offce is well on the way to becoming plastic free, just as the global company has announced that it will phase out all single-use plastics over the next five years.

Coinciding with World Environment Day, TTC (under the guidance of its not-for-profit TreadRight Foundation) instituted an immediate ban of more than 60 types of single-use plastic items such as straws, stir sticks, water bottles, plastic bags and cutlery from its 40 offices across its
portfolio of brands around the world.

The New Zealand office is already taking a number of steps, including providing staff access to glass ‘keep cups’ instead of takeaway cups, and encouraging staff to reduce waste when packing work lunches.
It has installed filter stations to refill water bottles, is receiving office online grocery shopping orders in boxes, rather than plastic bags, and making sure no plastic cutlery or straws etc are used in any organised catering. The company says these initiatives have a flow on effect to the homes and families of its employees. The Travel Corporation is a gold sponsor of Sustainable Coastlines, a New Zealand charity with a vision for beautiful beaches, healthy waters and inspired people.
