Fiji opening: safe, vaccinated

Fiji will open to international travellers on 1 December. Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama said in statement on Sunday that Fiji is ready to welcome travellers back to its shores.

‘We are entirely confident in our ability to manage the risk associated with quarantine-free travel. Our planes are prepared. Our airports are adapted.’

The official announcement came as Fiji reached its goal to get 80% of its eligible population fully vaccinated.

Travellers to Fiji must be fully vaccinated (children under 18 years old can travel with a vaccinated adult) from a Travel Partner country, which New Zealand is considered to be. Anyone over 12 years old will be required to provide a negative PCR test taken 72 hours prior to departure. Once they arrive in Fiji, these travellers can holiday in designated travel safe areas knowing that everyone they interact with will be fully vaccinated.

Tourism Fiji’s CEO Brent Hill says this is the moment the organisation and destination have beam planning for nearly two years.

‘I can assure the world that Fiji is safe and ready to welcome you back,’ he says.

Travel agents can refer to the country’s Care Fiji Commitment, World Health Organisation-approved standard of best practice and safety measures for travel. Each tourism business will have a dedicated Wellness Ambassador responsible for keeping everyone safe.

(It is probable that New Zealanders will need to wait longer to get back to Fiji due to NZ Government restrictions.)

FJ plans schedule for New Zealand

Fiji Airways has announced that flights will officially resume for fully vaccinated international travellers from 1 December 2021, with the first commercial flight from New Zealand to Fiji since March 2020 scheduled to depart Auckland on 1st December.

From 1 December, Fiji Airways plans to launch daily flights from Auckland to Nadi utilising its new Airbus A350-900 aircraft, three flights a week from Christchurch on its Boeing 737 Max, and two flights a week from Wellington utilising the 737 MAX.

Kiwis could possibly be among the first to take a vacation (dependant on NZ Government restrictions) in one of the world’s first fully vaccinated tourist destinations, with Fiji on track to have the entire working population vaccinated by November.

Fiji Airways is offering package holidays with luxury resorts at prices up to 45% more affordable than 2019 rates.

Four nights per person at Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa on Denarau Island, Fiji, start from $1099, including return flights with Fiji Airways, accommodation, all meals, transfers and more. Four nights at the same resort for a family of four (two adults and two kids), including return flights with Fiji Airways, accommodation, all meals, transfers and more will start from $2559.

The airline will adjust its planned schedules accordingly if certain destinations remain closed for international travel on 1 December.

Captain Cook Cruises Fiji releases schedule to 2024

Captain Cook Cruises has released its schedule for Reef Endeavour small ship cruises exploring some 90 of the reefs, beaches and islands in the Fiji group over four different three to 11-night itineraries through to March 2024.  The schedule also includes a seven-night Discovery Cruise to the Lau & Kadavu in addition to the 11-night Lau experience.

While Fiji’s borders were closed, the Reef Endeavour has operated cruises for local residents. The new seven-night Lau & Kadavu Discovery cruise in April sailed with a full complement of Fiji locals and was so popular the company decided to add the new cruise to their regular schedule.

‘This period of border closures has provided us time to fine tune and enhance our cruise offerings, further developing the best possible experiences for our passengers. Our focus on the destinations we visit and their residents provides a varied and rich range of activities that keeps our loyal passengers returning again and again,’ says Allison Haworth West, Captain Cook Cruises Fiji CEO.
