Expo 2020: trade gets preview Featured

Expo 2020 gave Kiwi trade a sneak preview of what is being billed the World’s Greatest Show when members of its marketing team visited Auckland this week.

Agents had a dinner at De Brett’s Hotel and were taken through a presentation of what the event has in store. Sumathi Ramanathan, Dubai-based director – destination marketing with Expo 2020, says 192 countries will each have their own pavilion at the event and 70% of visitation while the expo runs from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021 is expected to be from international markets.

The expo will be an affordable option for clients visiting Dubai – $50 for a day, $110 for a three-day pass, with a number of concessions (including children under five free and students with ID 50% discount). Ramanathan points out that attending World Expos can put clients in the middle of history. ‘In 1970 the mobile phone deputed in Osaka. But other inventions seen for the first time at World Expos include the ice cream cone, the television, x-ray machine, gramophone and IMAX theatre. So what will debut in 2020?
