They will become business owners from 1 January 2020. Parsons has been synonymous with travel in New Zealand for more than 40 years and his House of Travel store has been a landmark on the corner of The Square and Main Street for 31 years. He will remain part of the House of Travel family but with a focus on travel business development and mentoring as well as continuing his extensive community-focused work. Steve and Julie Parsons’ decision to become part of House of Travel began in 1987 and, the following year, Stephen Parsons House of Travel was established in its present location. Known as an entrepreneur, he has not only grown holiday customer numbers but diversified House of Travel Stephen Parsons into a robust business, including corporate and group travel. He has been a champion for the Virgin Galactic programme, becoming only one of four accredited space agents in New Zealand.
As well as being a mentor to many, he’s had a long-term commitment to Arohanui Hospice and last year he received the national HOT Hospice Award for work completed to raise awareness, impart knowledge and fundraise. Suzanne Andrews has had more than 25 years in the travel business and has been part of Stephen Parsons House of Travel for the last four years. She’s travelled extensively with her family and has visited 47 countries. David Andrews has a background in general and operational management, specialising in leadership, finance, business development and relationship management. ‘Although it’s hard to hand over the reins, it’s time for a change and the time is right,’ says Parsons.
