World Expeditions new Antarctica

World Expeditions has a new Antarctica itinerary. Guided by the renowned Antarctica expert, Greg Mortimer, the 31 day voyage offers participants the chance to visit both the Ross Sea and the Antarctic Peninsula, traveling on the vessel Ortelius between Ushuaia in Argentina and Invercargill in New Zealand. |
The voyage follows the paths of the early explorers through the Amundsen Sea, following the fringe of the pack ice before reaching the Antarctic Peninsula with visits to the volcanic Peter I Island, Detaille and Fish Islands. No other voyage has this rich view into Antarctic human history. Antarctica wildlife is plentiful. Minke, fin, sei, and orca whales are common sites and the voyage includes visits to King, Gentoo and Southern Rockhopper penguin rookeries. There’s also the chance to get up close with large numbers Royal Penguin and Macquarie Shag, as well as albatross and petrels. There are two departures: the first on January 16 2013 from Ushuaia and a reversed itinerary, departing Invercargill on February 15 2013.
