He says the country still has plenty of potential and the cruise market could be 50% larger in the near future. Allison’s comments came over the weekend, as the cruise line’s largest and newest ship Majestic Princess, made its New Zealand debut. Majestic Princess is expected to carry over 50,000 New Zealand and international travellers on 15 cruises this season and make a total of 88 visits to New Zealand ports. She joins a flotilla of Princess ships calling New Zealand home this summer, with Sun Princess, Sea Princess and Golden Princess all sailing to the region. Allison says Majestic will welcome more Kiwis aboard than have been on a Princess ship in the past.
The Christmas cruise will have more New Zealanders taking part than any other nationality. ‘It is a testament to the job our travel partners are doing in creating a demand for cruising from this part of the world.’ Twenty five New Zealand travel trade and a handful of media were hosted on the Majestic Princess for a site inspection and lunch at the signature restaurant Harmony, with a star turn by Michelin-star chef Richard Chen.
