Island House is actually two houses, each able to take four guests. Set among ancient banyan trees and palm forest, the complex also has a transit area and adventure room, the latter full of sporting and leisure equipment (including paddle boards, fins and snorkels, art equipment, cameras and musical instruments). Owner Timothy Maxwell says the houses will be stocked with fresh local produce and guests will be encouraged to create and cook meals. Alternatively, the island has restaurants. The houses also have private courtyards and copper baths. At A$3000 a night per house it is envisaged that some families and groups (including corporate retreats and incentives) will bring their own chefs and/or support teams. There is ‘friendly accommodation’ 50 to 100 metres away. Maxwell says Qantas Link flies daily from Sydney and weekly from Brisbane (with frequency increasing in the high season over summer).
